The concept of return on investment (ROI), is quite easy to understand. You make an investment over a set period of time, and at the end of that time period you get back your entire investment - with an additional amount added on. The additional amount received is the return on your initial investment. Many savvy investors take what they need to survive from the return, invest the profits, and thus are able to live off the interest.
